Challenges

SharePoint Web Part Development

OVERVIEW

The client is a provider of document centric software solutions for quality assurance, case management and customer relationship management. The client wanted to create configurable web parts which could be used in multiple solutions.

THE CHALLENGE

The web parts needed to be generic and configurable. The key aspects of this were:

  • Designed for easy integration across multiple current and planned product lines of the customer.
  • The underlying data sets to be used to generate the dash boards were to be configurable.

The client wanted to allow for easy personalization of the resultant dash board page by the site administrator as well as end users. AJAX enablement of the individual web parts on the page was necessary to ensure quicker response time and better user experience

Case Study Hurdles

NEWGEN SOLUTION

Newgen provided a solution to the client wherein the Site Administrator is able to choose the SharePoint Lists, and the columns within the SharePoint List as underlying data sets. The choices made by the Site Administrator were stored in the SharePoint repository and were later provided as options for configuration of individual web parts.

The administrator is able to create multiple dash boards for different roles and needs of the end user. Additionally the end user is able to use filters to further customize the data based on their needs and preferences.

Calcula Calculated columns were introduced in the SharePoint Lists to ensure speedy generation of dashboards graphs. Telerik RAD Controls were used to enable better look and feel for end users.

KEY BENEFITS

  • The Client has added dashboard functionality to their multiple product lines.
  • The development cost of the system was nearly 50% of the client’s internal development cost.
